Romans 7: 14-25 The Bad I do
It is true I’ve messed up again, it’s very plain to see
that when I try to be real good the bad gets hold of me.
I steal, I lie, and God sure knows I’ve broken many things.
I do it even though I know the consequence it brings.
And just when I think I can master being good,
I do the opposite from those things I know I should.
My dad, hmm, I don’t know how He puts up with me,
But He says that the good inside is all that He can see.
Don’t get me wrong, corrections there, I get all that is due,
And though the punishment is great, I know His love is true.
Sometimes I come confessing, then to Him I’ll cry.
He just says how good I am and knows how hard I try.
When I step away from Him, I feel all of His belief.
It makes me want to try real hard not to give him grief.
It’s that love He shows to me, that makes my courage strong.
It covers all that bad I feel, it keeps away the wrong.
I knowHe will be there for me, no matter what life brings,
and through His hugs and loving trust, I can do all things!

“The bad I do...”
From the desk of Sculptor - Bridgette Mongeon
Greetings my friend,
The scripture in Romans can be confusing when reading through it for the first time. I chose not to put it on the card for that reason. And instead I put the poem. I would love to have written the scripture out for you, but it is very long and I would not have any room to tell you what it means to me. I encourage you to look up this one.
The poem on the card really tells the story. Brandon wants to be good. He tries to be good, and he knows he should be good, but he always seems to do the bad. Here he is caught digging through his mom’s flowers to make a scenic way for his trucks. This mishap is a little one, but one added upon another. It is a spot that we have all been in. Sometimes you just want to throw your hands up and say, “Why keep trying to do good? I am bad.” But we have a loving Father who knows our hearts and sees every one of our efforts. He knows we live in
sinful bodies and that we fight that fight between good and evil daily. He sees how hard we try and loves us for it. He is so proud of our efforts.
Paul knew about “The Bad I do” when he wrote these scriptures in Romans “...I do not understand what I do, for what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” He too found himself doing those bad things over and over. For me it is comforting. It is comforting to know that I am not the only one going through this and that our God is a loving and caring God who does know the intent and desire of our heart. Even when we find ourselves in the midst of “The bad I do” He knows the goodness in us and the desire that we have to be more like Him.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for loving us even in the bad we do. Thank You that through Your love we find the strength to try harder. Let our lives be pleasing to You, and give us the strength to do good things.
In Jesus name I pray,
Amen
